Later on as city manager in Zandvoort - which still is a famous seaside resort - became familiar with all ins and outs of tourism as an profitable industry.
That experience and his skills did make it possible to remove to the northerly province Drenthe, nearby the German border. Where tourism, side-by-side with agriculture, is the real core business. Became general manager for the provincial Tourist Board and its travel agency.
Visited Sweden in 1966 for the first time, to be a eyewitness to Sweden chancing from left side driving into right side; and survived that experience.
